Boating Safety Course

TWRA Approved Boating Course and Testing

The Tennessee mandatory boating education law is similar to the driver’s license law. You acquire the study materials, study, and then take an approved boating safety exam administered by an approved representative of the TWRA.

Any Tennessee resident born after January 1, 1989 must show the TWRA-issued wallet Boating Safety Education Certificate as proof of successful completion of the TWRA Boating Safety exam.

No other certificate will be accepted as meeting the requirements of the law

Prior to taking the Boater Safety Course, you must purchase a Type 600 boating safety exam permit from any TWRA License Agent that sells hunting and fishing licenses. (WalMart, sporting goods, bait stores, etc) The receipt from this transaction is your 'ticket' to take the exam. Try not to loose this receipt, it will admit you to the exam and serve as a temporary certificate if you pass the exam. {You can NOT take the test without this certificate. You must be at least 11 years old to take the exam.}

Our course is the Boat Tennessee course from TWRA and helps prepare you to pass the TN Boating Safety Education exam. The class is typically 5 to 6 hours long, including the final testing. We grade the tests and validate the certificate before you leave class.

The class fee is $30.00 and lunch is provided. Please call to pre-register. Day of class
is limited to space available only. No credit card payments accepted for walk-ins.

Online testing after self study is available Monday through Friday from 10:30a - 4:30p by appointment. You will need to purchase the Type 600 permit prior to testing.

The TWRA BOAT TENNESSEE course is approved by the NASBLA and meets the requirements for most insurance companies.
